Deck Build Cost
Guide liveMaterials and labour for a ground-level deck in pressure-treated lumber, cedar and composite, priced per square foot with railing and stair allowances.
Read the guide →What projects actually cost — researched the same way we build calculators: published method, stated assumptions, no invented precision.
A material quantity is only half of a project budget. The other half is the installed price — and installed prices are local. Labour rates in Houston are not labour rates in Seattle, so a single national number is a starting point, not an answer.
That is why our cost guides are built as a programme: 20 core projects × 50 states = 1,000 guides, published in waves. Each guide shows a low–typical–high range for the state, what drives a project toward the top of the range, what is included in a standard quote, and the line items contractors most often bill as extras. Every figure traces to published cost data and contractor pricing surveys, and each guide is dated and re-checked on a rolling cycle.
Wave 1 — the ten highest-demand projects at national level — is published below. State editions follow in order of search demand. Guides are published only when their data is verified — a shorter list of correct guides beats a long list of generated ones.
