About HomeMathLab
Who we are and why every formula on this site is published openly.
HomeMathLab builds free calculators for homeowners, DIYers and the tradespeople they hire. Every tool answers the question that starts almost every home project: how much material do I actually need?
Most material calculators ask you to trust a black box — or worse, they quietly skip the waste allowance, so the number looks tidy and leaves you one box short on a Saturday afternoon. We do the opposite: every calculator on this site publishes its formula, a worked example you can check with a pocket calculator, and the assumptions it makes. If you disagree with an assumption, the inputs let you change it.
What we will not do
- We will never hide the maths. If a quantity appears on this site, the formula behind it is on the same page.
- We will never present an estimate as a quote. Materials vary by product and region; our numbers are planning figures with the waste allowance shown separately, so you can see exactly what is measurement and what is margin.
- We will never ask for your project details. Calculations run in your browser; we do not see your inputs.
How the site is funded
HomeMathLab is free to use and supported by advertising. Ad placements are fixed and labelled, and are never placed inside a calculator's input flow.
Corrections
Formulas are reviewed against manufacturer coverage data and standard trade references. If you find a number you believe is wrong, contact us with the product and the page — verified corrections are published, not quietly patched.
